Students enrolled in a healthcare career pathway may be eligible for up to $10,000 toward the cost of completing a qualified healthcare program within a 2-year timeframe. Preference will be given to those enrolled in a Nursing Pathway or Behavioral Health Pathway; however, other healthcare career pathways are also eligible.
ELIGIBILITY
WyHealthTrain Grants may be available to Wyoming residents who are:
- Newly enrolled for the upcoming semester in eligible healthcare-related academic programs provided by a Wyoming Community College or the University of Wyoming and who also meet one or both of the following criteria:
- Became unemployed or underemployed during or as a result of the pandemic (March 13, 2020 – May 11, 2023).
- Household income is at or below 300% of the federal poverty guidelines.

FAQ’s
1. Do you have to be 18 or older to apply for this grant?
No, you may qualify if you are under 18 years of age and are newly enrolling in a qualifying Healthcare Program. If you are under 18, please complete the application with your parent or guardian.
2. What expenses will the grant cover?
Allowable expenses include: tuition, textbooks and course packets, lab/instrument kits, and license/certification exam fees. Required uniforms will be reviewed per application depending on program requirements.
3. What expenses are not covered?
Non-allowable expenses include: room and board, childcare expenses, transportation costs, drug screenings/immunizations, background checks and fingerprinting, and other personal expenses.
4. Do I have to maintain a certain GPA to continue to receive funding?
Yes, applicants will need to maintain, at a minimum, a 2.0 GPA in consecutive semesters.
5. Can I take a break in semesters or courses and still receive funding when I return?
No, the degree/certification will need to be completed in consecutive semesters.
6. How will I know if my application has been approved?
WyHealthTrain will notify grant recipients of approval or denial approximately two weeks following the close of the application submission window via email. If approved, the email will provide next steps for documentation needed and processes to receive funding.
7. If I am approved but I learn the program I first wanted is not a good match for me, can I change my program and still receive funding under the new program if it is Healthcare related?
Written notification must be submitted along with a Change Request Form for DWS to consider your request. Approval is not guaranteed at the time of request.
8. If I want to transfer to another school to complete my approved program, what do I need to do?
Written notification must be submitted along with a Change Request Form for DWS to consider your request. Approval is not guaranteed at the time of request.
9. I am not able to complete my degree or certification that I was approved for, what do I need to do?
Written notification will be required and a determination will be made for next steps.
