To protect your identity and ensure your unemployment benefits are secure, the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services’ Unemployment Insurance Division has teamed up with an identity verification service. This service helps confirm that you are who you say you are, and not someone else trying to use your identity. It’s crucial to complete the identity verification process, as your unemployment benefits won’t be processed until your identity is verified.

How to Set Up Your ID Verification Account

To create an ID verification account, you’ll need the following:

  • An accessible email account
  • A current government-issued ID (Driver’s License, State ID, Passport Card, or Passport)
  • A mobile phone with a camera for taking photos

When you’re ready, you can either sign in to an existing account or create a new one. Here’s how to get started:

Step 1: Create Your ID.me Account

  1. Choose “Create an ID.me Account”
  2. Enter your email address and create a password, then confirm your password.
  3. Check your email and click the confirmation link to verify your email address.

Step 2: Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA adds an extra layer of security to your account. You can choose from several options:

  • Receive a one-time password via SMS
  • Use a mobile app to receive a push notification
  • Get a time-based one-time password
  • Use a hardware token, like a Yubikey

Tip: You can also generate a recovery code in case you lose access to your MFA device or accounts.

Step 3: Verify Your Identity

You have two methods to verify your identity:

Method 1: Online Form Verification

  1. Enter your name, phone number, address, and Social Security Number (SSN).
  2. Answer a few security questions based on your credit history.

Method 2: Upload Your ID

  1. Submit photos of your current government-issued ID (Driver’s License, Passport, or Passport Card).
    • You can upload photos directly from your computer or take new ones with your mobile phone.
  2. After uploading, the identity verification service will confirm your documents are legitimate and extract the necessary information. You’ll then be asked to enter your SSN.

Why SSN is Required: The service uses your SSN to uniquely identify you and verify your information against authoritative data sources, such as utility or financial records. This ensures that each user has only one verified ID.me account.

Step 4: Consent to Share Your Data

Once your identity is verified, you’ll be asked to consent to sharing your data with Wyoming Unemployment Insurance (WYUI).

  • Important: If you choose not to share your data, you won’t be able to use your verified credentials on the WYUI site.

After you click “Allow,” your setup is complete. You’ll be directed back to the Wyoming Unemployment Insurance website – WYUI.wyo.gov – to continue with your online service.
