Unemployment Insurance

If you find yourself facing an overpayment, here’s what the Benefit Overpayment Section will do to address the issue:

  • Monitor your claims to make sure benefits are paid correctly.
  • Investigate any potential fraudulent activity related to your claims.
  • Work to recover any overpaid unemployment benefits through:
    • Setting up a plan for you to repay the amount.
    • Reducing your future benefit payments to recover the overpayment.
    • Taking the matter to Small Claims Court or Circuit Court if needed.
    • Handling cases where bankruptcy is involved.
  • Match your reported earnings with data from the State and National Directory of New Hires.
  • Confirm your eligibility status if you are not a U.S. citizen.
  • Provide verification of your unemployment benefits to third parties when required.
  • Review requests to waive overpayments in hardship cases, provided fraud isn’t involved.
  • Offset or reduce payments for Wyoming claims if you have overpayments in other states, and they work with other states to recover Wyoming overpayments.
  • Share claim information with other state and federal agencies to support investigations.
