The Division will continuously add more medical/surgical procedures to the list as treatment guidelines are developed for the specific conditions. Prioritization will depend on the frequency of the problem(s), outcomes of procedures, unexplained variation in utilization of costly resources, quality of care problems perceived by injured workers, providers, division staff and introduction of new technology. Consensus development will take place between the Medical Commission members and active practicing community-based Healthcare providers who are clinical experts in the topic(s) to be addressed. Newly developed treatment guidelines may be quite liberally constructed, however, subsequent tightening of the treatment guidelines would occur as national guidelines are set, or other scientific evidence becomes available.
