What is a Trusted Referee video call?

If your online identity verification attempt was unsuccessful, you might be asked to connect with a Trusted Referee, also known as a Video Chat Agent. A Trusted Referee is a trained specialist who will help verify your identity through a video call.

What to Expect During the Video Call

During the call, you’ll be asked to show physical copies of your identification documents, such as a current driver’s license, state-issued photo ID, passport card, or passport. You might also need to provide proof of your Social Security number, or additional documents if your name has changed or to confirm your current address.

Steps to Verify Your Identity with a Trusted Referee

  1. Get Started
Click the “Get Started” button to begin the process.
  2. Review and Update Your Information
Confirm that all your information is accurate, then click “Continue.”
  3. Enter Your Social Security Number
Provide your Social Security number when prompted.
  4. Gather Your Documents
Prepare the required documents. You’ll need to upload either two primary documents or one primary and two secondary documents. Make sure they are current and match the name you’ve provided. See the list of accepted documents.
  5. Upload Your Documents
    • If you choose “Take Photo,” you’ll receive a text message with a secure link to upload photos of your documents.
    • If you select “Choose Image,” you can upload photos already stored on your device.
    • You can also take a photo of yourself (a selfie) during this step.
  6. Confirm Your Uploads
Once your documents are uploaded, click “Continue.” While your documents are being reviewed, you’ll see an estimated wait time.
  7. Join the Video Call
When your documents are accepted, you’ll be prompted to start the video call. Click “Join Video Call” and wait for the Trusted Referee to join. During the call, show your documents to the Trusted Referee, answer a few questions, and you’re done! Your identity is now verified.

After you have completed the process with your Trusted Referee, you’ll be directed back to the Wyoming Unemployment Insurance website – WYUI.wyo.gov – to continue with your online service.
