With over 100 occupations designated as STEM by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, including computer, mathematics, architecture, engineering, and life and physical sciences, the future of Wyoming is STEM. National STEM Day, celebrated annually on Nov. 8, encourages youth to explore their interests in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were nearly 10 million workers nationwide in STEM occupations. By 2031, this total is expected to grow by almost 11% – more than two times faster than the total for all occupations. In Wyoming as of May 2021, there were an estimated 11,570 STEM jobs – that’s 4.4% of the state’s total employment. The average wage for STEM occupations in Wyoming was $75,620, compared to $51,010 for non-STEM occupations. Over the next ten years, Wyoming is projected to have more than 11,000 job openings in STEM; STEM occupations are projected to grow at a similar rate (14.5%) as total job growth (15%)!
