The Research & Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services reported today that from third quarter 2023 to third quarter 2024, total employment in the state grew by 2,231 jobs (0.8%) and total payroll increased by $300.8 million (7.3%). Employment rose in 15 counties and fell in eight counties. Total payroll increased in 21 counties and decreased in two counties.
Laramie County added 562 jobs (1.2%) and its total payroll grew by $27.9 million (3.9%). The largest job growth occurred in local government, construction, state government, and professional & technical services. Those job gains were partially offset by job losses in accommodation & food services, manufacturing, and information.
Teton County gained 398 jobs (1.5%) and its total payroll rose by $89.2 million (20.1%). Sizeable job growth was seen in arts, entertainment, & recreation; construction; and accommodation & food services. Employment fell in retail trade, professional & technical services, and information.
Employment in Albany County rose by 338 jobs (2.0%) and its total payroll grew by $29.9 million (13.8%). The largest job growth occurred in state government, construction, and local government.
Lincoln County added 255 jobs (3.6%) and its total payroll increased by $9.8 million (9.5%). Job growth was seen in local government; construction; professional & technical services; retail trade; arts, entertainment & recreation; and accommodation & food services.
Carbon County gained 231 jobs (3.4%) and its total payroll increased by $11.7 million (12.5%). Construction employment rose by 265 jobs (49.7%) and small job losses were seen in many different sectors.
Employment in Sheridan County rose by 228 jobs (1.6%) and its total payroll grew by $21.7 million (11.5%). Job gains were seen in several sectors, including construction, local government, manufacturing, retail trade, professional & technical services, and administrative & waste services.
Natrona County added 207 jobs (0.5%) and its total payroll rose by $29.5 million (5.1%). Construction employment rose by 255 jobs (8.0%) and smaller job gains were seen in manufacturing and health care & social assistance. Job losses occurred in transportation & warehousing, accommodation & food services, and professional & technical services.
Sweetwater County lost 420 jobs (-2.0%) and its total payroll fell by $103,067 (0.0%). Construction employment fell by 497 jobs (-25.4%) and smaller job losses were seen in accommodation & food services, mining (including oil & gas), and professional & technical services. Job growth occurred in local government, health care & social assistance, and wholesale trade.
Employment in Fremont County fell by 267 jobs (-1.7%), but its total payroll grew by $2.8 million (1.4%). Job losses were seen in health care & social assistance, mining (including oil & gas), retail trade, and construction.
Campbell County lost 212 jobs (-0.9%), but its total payroll increased by $1.9 million (0.5%). Employment fell in mining (including oil & gas), information, management of companies & enterprises, and professional & technical services.
