CHEYENNE – Apprenticeships are proven pathways to careers in traditional fields such as construction, manufacturing and plumbing, but they are becoming more common in many other industries, such as cyber security, health care and information technology. No matter the industry, though, apprenticeships play a vital role in preparing workers with the qualifications and skills they need to thrive in a strong and highly skilled workforce.
With that in mind, Governor Mark Gordon and many mayors throughout Wyoming have proclaimed Nov. 8-14 Wyoming Apprenticeship Week, in conjunction with National Apprenticeship Week. Gov. Gordon’s proclamation states, “… The State of Wyoming recognizes that robust apprenticeship programs provide tangible value to both career creators and apprentices, with the potential to increase productivity, improve diversity and inclusion, and reduce recruitment and training costs while providing a pathway to prosperous careers for employees.”
In order to provide more information about apprenticeships and options available to those who want to become apprentices or start an apprenticeship program for their business, the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services is partnering with the Wyoming Office of Apprenticeships and the Wyoming Department of Education to host a virtual Apprenticeship Fair from 4:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10. The fair will demonstrate how easy it is to set up an apprenticeship and how beneficial an apprenticeship can be for both the student and the employer. The fair will take place on Zoom in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
