Protect Yourself from Fraud and Identity Theft

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is warning residents about an alarming rise in scam text messages targeting Unemployment Insurance and Workers’ Compensation benefits. These deceptive messages are designed to steal personal information and access accounts.

Elizabeth Gagen, DWS Director, emphasizes the importance of staying vigilant: “The Department of Workforce Services will only reach out to claimants through their preferred method of contact.”

Scammers attempt to gather personal details to file fraudulent claims or compromise existing accounts. It’s crucial to stay alert when receiving unsolicited phone calls, text messages, or emails asking for sensitive information like your Social Security number, bank account details, PINs, or passwords. Remember: DWS will never send text messages with links to log into an account.

What You Can Do:

  • Avoid clicking on any links in emails or text messages.
If you’re unsure about a link asking you to log in, don’t click it! Instead, go directly to the official website to log into your account.
  • If you’ve filed a claim for Unemployment Insurance or Workers’ Compensation, double-check that your contact information, payment method, and account details are accurate and haven’t been altered.

For more information or assistance with Unemployment Insurance or Workers’ Compensation, visit the DWS website at dws.wyo.gov. For additional tips on safeguarding your personal data, check out cybersecurity.wyo.gov. Stay informed and protect your personal information!
