CHEYENNE — The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is proud to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) this October. Each year, this campaign highlights the important role people with disabilities play in keeping America’s workforce strong and vibrant.
The 2025 theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” reminds us that the unique perspectives and skills of people with disabilities are vital to thriving communities and workplaces.
NDEAM has a long history, dating back to 1945, when it began as a week-long recognition of the contributions of people with physical disabilities. Over time, it grew into a monthlong celebration that now includes people with all types of disabilities, including mental health conditions and non-apparent disabilities. The focus has always been the same: creating opportunities and opening doors for more inclusive employment.
Throughout October, DWS and its partners will host activities and events across the state to raise awareness and show support for disability employment. Proclamation signings will take place in communities statewide, including:
- Cheyenne: Governor Mark Gordon will sign the official proclamation on Monday, Oct. 6 at 10:30 a.m. in the Governor’s Ceremonial Conference Room at the Capitol.
- Sheridan: Mayor Rich Bridger will sign the proclamation after a public reading by Vocational Rehabilitation staff member Jen Swaney on Monday, Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
- Cody: Mayor Lee Ann Reiter will sign the proclamation on Tuesday, Oct. 7 (no public meeting will be held).
- Torrington: Mayor Herb Doby will read and sign the proclamation on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
- Douglas: Mayor Kim Pexton will sign the proclamation on Monday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. at City Hall.
“DWS is proud to take part in National Disability Employment Awareness Month,” said DWS Director Liz Gagen. “This is an opportunity to recognize the talent people with disabilities bring to Wyoming’s workforce and to emphasize our commitment to creating workplaces where everyone has the chance to succeed.”
