The Federal Bonding Program helps employers hire or promote individuals who might otherwise have trouble getting bonded by commercial insurance. The program provides free bonding coverage for high-risk job seekers, giving employers peace of mind when hiring.
Who Can Benefit
Bonding is available if a person is qualified for the job but cannot get bonded by a commercial carrier due to:
- Record of arrest, conviction, or imprisonment
- History of alcohol or drug abuse
- Lack of previous work history
- Dishonorable military discharge
- Poor credit history
Coverage: Up to $5,000 per person. The federal government pays the initial cost.
Job and Employee Requirements
To qualify:
- The individual must have a firm job offer for a permanent, full-time position
- The individual must not be self-employed
- The individual must not be commercially bondable
If these criteria are met, bonding coverage usually begins on the first day of work.
Bonds are initially issued for six months. After six months:
- Employers are encouraged to request bonding through their commercial insurance carrier, if needed
- Employers can also extend the bond for another six months by contacting the Federal Bonding Program directly
How to Apply
Applications can be submitted by either the job seeker or the employer at any Wyoming Workforce Center.
