Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) services help you prepare for, find, and keep a job by providing support tailored to your needs. Please note, there are limits to the services VR can provide, based on funding, eligibility, and job-related focus. Below are important details about how VR services work.
1. Individual Need
- Services are not the same for everyone.
- You only receive the services that are necessary for your employment goal, as outlined in your Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE).
2. Financial Participation
- Some services may require you to share in the cost, depending on your income and resources.
- For example, VR might help pay for college or training, but you may be expected to apply for other financial aid first (like Pell Grants).
3. Availability of Funds
- VR services are subject to available funding.
- If resources are limited, Wyoming may use an Order of Selection system, meaning people with the most significant disabilities are served first.
4. Medical or Support Services
- VR does not replace regular medical care or provide long-term support services.
- They may pay for treatment or assistive technology only if it’s necessary to help you work
5. Employment-Related Focus
- All services must directly tie back to helping you prepare for, get, or keep a job.
- If a service doesn’t support your employment goal, VR cannot provide it.
6. Case Closure
Your VR case can be closed if:
- DVR determines services are no longer appropriate.
- You reach your job goal and have maintained employment for at least 90 days.
- You choose to stop services.
- You move away, cannot be located, or are not participating.
