[{"id":8533,"date":"2026-10-05T13:54:41","date_gmt":"2026-10-05T19:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dws.wyo.gov\/?post_type=success-story&#038;p=8533"},"modified":"2026-10-05T13:54:42","modified_gmt":"2026-10-05T19:54:42","slug":"building-futures-with-habitat-for-humanity","status":"publish","type":"success-story","link":"https:\/\/dws.wyo.gov\/zh\/success-story\/building-futures-with-habitat-for-humanity\/","title":{"rendered":"Building Futures with Habitat for Humanity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bridging Classroom Learning and Real-World Success<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a significant difference between learning a skill in a classroom and applying it out on a real-world job site. <strong>An internship bridges that gap by giving students and emerging workers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop problem-solving skills, and better understand how individual roles come together within an industry.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Wyoming employers, internships also provide an opportunity to introduce new talent to their business, build a future workforce pipeline, and invest in the skills their communities need.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Creating a Pipeline for Local Talent<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Habitat for Humanity of Laramie County has successfully utilized the <strong>Internship Grant<\/strong> multiple times over the past three years, turning internship opportunities into long term employment.&nbsp; \u201cWe hired all four of those employees when the internship ended,\u201d shared Daffney Sandoval, Development Director at Habitat for Humanity of Laramie County. The Internship Grant has allowed Habitat for Humanity to provide meaningful work experience while also identifying individuals who may be a strong fit for future employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Transforming Students Into Trade Professionals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most recently, Habitat partnered with Laramie County School District 1 (LCSD1) to provide internship opportunities for two high school trades students as construction began on Pronghorn Crossing, Habitat&#8217;s newest residential development in Cheyenne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The experience had a meaningful impact on both students, including Gavin Cicarelli, an aspiring electrician who designed and built the development\u2019s entry sign.
